Who writes SoloBrief

SoloBrief is written by G Mohan Jayanth (MJ), a freelancer and solopreneur based in India who runs the editorial team. Research is assisted by AI tooling; every verdict, recommendation, and limitation note is human-reviewed before publication.

How we test AI tools

Every review on SoloBrief follows a documented 5-factor rubric. Read the full methodology at how we test.

In short:

  1. Real workflows, not demo flows. We use the tool inside actual freelance work: client proposals, daily email triage, project scheduling, deliverable writing. Not feature tours.
  2. Time tracking. Every review includes time-on-task measurements (with N samples) compared against a baseline of doing the same task without the tool.
  3. Pricing math at year 1. Renewal price after the promo period, not the headline number. We include the math.
  4. Honest limitation section. Every review has a “Where this tool falls short” section. If we cannot find weaknesses, we did not test long enough.
  5. Refund and trial verification. We confirm the refund window and trial length on the vendor’s live pricing page on the day of publication.

How we use AI in the editorial process

AI is used for:

  • Initial research (gathering pricing pages, feature lists, integration matrices)
  • Drafting first passes of structural sections (intros, comparison tables, FAQ scaffolds)
  • Catching factual inconsistencies between sources before publication
  • Generating image briefs and social distribution copy

AI is not used for:

  • Final verdict decisions
  • Rating numbers
  • Limitation calls (what the tool does poorly)
  • Recommendation calls (who should buy this, who should not)

A human team member signs off every article before it publishes.
